Core 7 Assessment To assess how your roastery is performing in the Core 7 areas, we’ve created a 14-question assessment.Once it’s complete, we’ll reach out to discuss your results. What's your name? * First Name Last Name Email * What is the name of your business? * SALES - Do you have a sales process? * i.e. Is there a defined process for how you or your salesperson moves a prospect from initial contact to the moment they give you payment information? Yes! Process is everything! No. We just play it by ear—and we’re still standing. We follow a loose process, but nothing is written down. SALES - Do you use a CRM? Yes! We live and die by our CRM. No. We just try to remember when a sales opportunity comes up. We have one and use it on and off whenever we need more accounts. PRODUCT Are you certain you make a profit on all of your products? Yes! We keep a tight rope on every single thing that we sell. No. We just add a percentage on top of whatever an item costs us. PRODUCT - Do you have a process for adding new products to your lineup? Yes! We have a detailed process that we follow. No. We add products as needed and manage each one as a brand-new project. We have a loose process for how we add products to our lineup. CASH - When there is a surplus of cash, what happens? We move surplus cash to a designated account and follow a process for how it’s handled. No. We don’t have a surplus. We have a loose process for how we use surplus cash. CASH - At this moment, do you know how much you owe in debt? Yes. We keep close tabs on our debt liability. No. I prefer not to look at things like that. I can give you round numbers, but not an exact figure. GREEN COFFEE - When purchasing green coffee, do you have a process for choosing blenders vs. single origin coffees? Yes! We have strict guidelines for what qualifies as an SO vs. blender, and we have structure for how much we can spend per pound on each. No. We buy based on relationship or cup score. We have loose guidelines for what gets added as an SO vs. a blender. GREEN COFFEE - Do you have structured QC guidelines, standards, and regular internal cuppings? * Yes! Everything is written down, structured, and includes training on how to evaluate coffees. No. We’re happy if we get all our orders out the door each week. We have casual guidelines, but nothing concrete. ROASTERY OPERATIONS - Is your daily production flow standardized to the point that everyone knows exactly what to do, how to do it, and when to do it? Yes! We have highly structured production training and QC. No. We just throw people into the fire—that’s the best way to learn. We train on the job, and standards are verbally shared during work. ROASTERY OPERATIONS - Do you forecast daily needs or have pars for your top-selling coffees? Yes! We maintain rolling stock of best sellers, project SO needs, and work to backfill orders. No. We fulfill orders as they come in. Somewhat. We have a general idea of needs and try to get ahead when we can. PEOPLE - When hiring, is there a clear onboarding and training process? * Yes! We take pride in sharing our mission, vision, and values and guiding new employees through onboarding. No. We prefer a more organic growth and learning environment. We follow a loose training process, but nothing is written down. PEOPLE - Do you have an organizational structure? i.e. Does everyone know who they report to? Yes! We have an accessible org chart that clarifies roles and departments. No. We’re so small that everyone just reports to me. We have some structure, but nothing is written down. WHOLESALE - Do you know the average lifecycle of a wholesale buyer? i.e. How long they stay with you and how their needs change over time. Yes. We’ve invested deeply in understanding our buyers and how to best serve them. No. We believe we’ll keep them forever because of our relationships. We have a loose understanding of how accounts grow and change. WHOLESALE - Do you have a wholesale support program? i.e. Training, education, nurturing plan, and established check-ins. Yes. We have a training program, a nurturing plan, and account managers who check in regularly. No. We just drop off coffee and hope for the best. We train as needed and try to check in at least quarterly.
